Acne research is an ongoing part of dermatology studies throughout the world. Among the current treatments for acne that are being researched are:

- Antibiotics
- Laser Surgery
- Viral Therapy
- Isotretinoin Studies
- Hormone Supression
- Benzoyl Peroxide Exfoliators/Toners/Prevention Creams (highly recommended)

Antibiotics are one of the few effective treatments for acne. New research published in U.S.A. Today in May of 2004 indicates that a specific bacterium is associated with severe acne. These Propionibacterium acnes are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotic treatments. The researchers believe that the trend indicates antibiotics will become less useful in clinical treatment of acne in the future. Alternative therapies and other non-antibiotic treatments were recommended rather than relying only on antibiotics for treating severe acne.

Meanwhile, British researchers have discovered that a laser used to treat other skin problems such as wrinkles and scars appears to be safe and effective in the treatment of acne. The researchers published their findings in The Lancet and found that one 15-minute treatment with the laser reduced the overall severity of 31 acne patients and none suffered any negative effects. 10 other patients received placebo laser treatment and showed no signs of improvement at all, validating the research.

The benefits of laser technology in the treatment of acne are enormous. Treatments that do not rely on invasive procedures, such as puncturing acne lesions, antibiotics, or hormonal therapies could be the wave of the future. Research continues into why the laser induces the production of chemicals that reduce inflammation and prevents acne spots from developing.

Scientists at the University of Leeds have found that a bacteriophage, a virus that consumes bacteria, naturally found on the skin attacks and destroys the bacterium that contributes to the formation of acne. The University’s findings show promise in the idea of using a naturally occurring virus to attack the bacteria that contributes to acne. All research on this particular treatment has occurred only in the laboratory and the next step will be clinical trials on human volunteers.

Studies focus on the drug isotretinoin that is prescribed to aid patients who suffer from severe nodular and cystic acne. These violent outbreaks can lead to disfiguring scars if left untreated. Isotretinoin is an effective treatment that a patient takes for 16 to nearly half a year, and usually shows remarkable results in clearing up the acne. However, isotretinoin use has been linked to severe depression, psychological dysfunction, and suicide, side effects that are extremely dangerous.

Research in this pharmaceutical area focuses on the chemical triggers that isotretinoin affects, and what can be done to make the drug treatment safer for patients. One side effect of isotretinoin is that it causes severe birth defects if taken while pregnant.

The most available and best treatment option out there is actually over the counter in the form of 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide topical dermal creams. Studies have shown that 2.5%, if delivered appropriately, has the effects of 5-10% Benzoyl Peroxide without drying the skin. Many dermatoligists agree that the best way to treat acne is with a simple three-step solution. Generally, this will include a Benzoyl Peroxide exfoliating agent which removes dead and dirty skin, followed by a toner cream which actually fights the bacteria, and a repair and prevention 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide cream which stays on throughout the day to prevent acne from returning. This is a very popular solution because it generally works within only 20-30 days. We personally recommend our effective three-step kit, Tru-derma, which we have built to stringently conform to the specifications of medical professionals, dermatoligists. The field of acne research, both in treatment and causality, is a large and growing field. The benefit of this research includes everyone who is at risk for acne, which is the majority of the population.

Proper Nutrition Can Make Your Kid a Top Student

It is important that your child gets his or her nutrition early on, preferably form Grade 1. This is the most important time for brain development, as they start to learn new things and create new ideas all the time. Brain development revolves around getting the right amount of:

1) Glucose - Simply put, it is the blood sugar level. Glucose provides energy, and is vital in determining attention span. Lack of glucose can cause your kid to feel sleepy in class. The most important meal is breakfast, and glucose should be a part of every child's breakfast, to ensure that the blood sugar level is maintained through out the day's activities. Kids who usually skip breakfast tend to have a shorter attention span and difficulty remembering their lessons.

2) Vitamin B - Vitamin B helps to release the energy in glucose. Lack of Vitamin B can cause aggressiveness and depression. There are 12 types of essential Vitamin B, so it may be difficult to get all in a meal. Cereals are a good provider of Vitamin B.

3) Iron - Helps to transport oxygen in the blood system to each individual cell, including brain cells. Lack of iron results in anemia, which is common in children who don't get a balanced diet. Besides having less attention span, iron-anemic children are less motivated to participate in challenging tasks that stretch their imagination and ability. Having a good selection of red meat, tuna, chicken, or leafy vegetables like legumes and broccoli, can give your kid all the iron he or she needs.

4) Folic Acid - Important in the formation of red and white blood cells. Lack of folic acid results in your kid feeling tired, irritable and forgetful. Food sources like fresh vegetables and fruits are good sources of folic acid.

5) Zinc - Important to maintain communication between nerve cells and brain cells. Deficiencies in zinc can cause your kid to have difficulty solving academic problems, something the medical world calls cognitive impairment. Zinc in its natural form can be found in cereals and peanuts.

6) Vitamin A - An important nutrient for the nervous system of a fetus. Vitamin A is most commonly found in beta carotene, from dark leafy vegetables and orange or yellow fruits.

How to Ensure Your Kid Gets the Right Nutrition

A consisting of the right amount of cereals, meat, fish, vegetables, fiber-rich fruits, and lots of clean, unprocessed water will provide your child with the magic formula to succeed in school, both academically and in sports. Does that mean that the parents of ‘A' students go out shopping each day, cook their own food, and sit down with their kids on the breakfast table to ensure that they eat what they're supposed to?

Not necessarily. Parents are discovering the importance of nutritional supplements to balance out their diet, as well as their children's diet. Nutritional supplements provide the answer to the close the gap created by a busy lifestyle and the need for better health. Adults can take multivitamins and mineral supplements out of their own determination for better health. Children, on the other hand, especially the younger ones, need to be educated, tricked or forced to take nutritional supplements. Any way you do it, it has to be done for the better future of your child.

Kids generally detest swallowing any sort of multivitamin pill, especially if it's like really huge ones or if it tastes bad. Understandably for them, taste is more important than the benefit of the pill. Educating your kid is important in the long run, but younger children need to be introduced to supplements in a more subtle way. one good way is by giving them chewable supplements, which disguise the fact that they are supplements by giving a good taste and flavor. Kids are generally more receptive to taking chewables than regular pills.

Another trend today is taking liquid nutritional supplements. Liquid nutritional supplements go one step further than chewables by eliminating the need of pill forms. Liquid nutrition can be diluted and mixed into our drinks, cereals and whatever else you eat during the course of a day. Children today love taking liquid supplements that are mixed into their orange juice or other beverage. Even adults who hate taking pills are attracted to liquid multivitamin supplements. Liquid nutrition is also more readily and easily absorbed by the body.

Start Early to Determine Success

If you really want your kid to grow up smart and popular in school, you have to start early. Mothers should take Vitamin B supplements during their pregnancy months to ensure complete fetal growth. Even though nutritional supplements are generally not recommended to kids below 2 years, ensure that from that age on your children are introduced to taking chewable or liquid nutritional supplements.

Grade A students and kids who excel in school generally don't have anything special that your kid does not already have. The only difference is that they have parents who emphasize the benefits of good nutrition. Now that you know their secret, start today by analyzing your kid's eating habits and take action to change their life, and yours.

My hair is falling out
Saturday, October 6, 2007, 03:43 PM - Hair Loss Reviews

I can recommend a natural approach to slowing hair loss, but I suspect that most readers aren't going to enjoy this answer very much. That's because as much as I disagree with the conclusion many medical researchers reach about the degree of influence genetics holds over chronic disease, the fact is that baldness, especially among males, is a genetically inherited trait. At a certain age, your hair does start to fall out if you've been genetically programmed for hair loss. But that doesn't mean there's nothing that can be done about it. However, before I get to the solutions, I'd like to discuss some of the more revealing aspects of why hair falls out, and why hair turns gray.

Let's talk about gray hair first, because gray hair is something that is quite obviously genetically programmed into both males and females. When your biological age reaches a certain threshold, your hair starts turning gray. This actually serves a social purpose, because gray hair signifies a degree of not just age, but wisdom and experience. And if you look at other primates, and the influences of behavioral evolution on human history, you realize that there was actually a strong social advantage to having gray hair after a certain age.

This is because the other members of the group tend to look upon someone with gray hair with a greater degree of respect. Gray hair signifies that you probably know what you're doing, that you're wiser, and that you have much more experience about the way the world works. So gray hair is something that is built into human genetics in order to establish a symbol of age and wisdom. This is why when your hair is turning gray it doesn't mean anything's wrong with you -- it just means that your blueprint is kicking in and giving you the symbols of wisdom and experience.

Don't believe it? Here's an example that will explain it further: Silverback gorillas aren't really "silver." They're gray. It's gray hair that gives them the silver characteristic, and it's pre-programmed to appear when they reach the age of maturity (around 13 years old for a gorilla). Gorillas that have gray hair have higher social standing in the gorilla group. They are given far more respect that gorilla children who don't yet have silver hair. In this social group, the gray hair serves as a visible signal of maturity.

I know that gorillas aren't humans, but technically they are 98% humans (we share 98% of our genes with gorillas, including many that control hair color changes).

In fact, I'm willing to bet you unconsciously assume individuals with gray hair are more wise, educated and mature than those without gray hair. Think for a moment, in your own mind, what a "statesman" should look like. Does he or she have gray hair? For most people, the answer is yes. Also, remember when President Clinton was first running for office and suddenly, overnight, his hair color became gray? That was most likely a strategic decision to increase his apparent age and wisdom at a subconscious level. The American people aren't ready to elect a President who still has black hair: the person still looks too young to know anything!

Little Tips that can Help You Lose Weight
Friday, October 5, 2007, 01:14 AM - Weight Loss Reviews
-- Acnezine Provillus Acnezine Provillus Acnezine Provillus Acnezine Provillus Acnezine Provillus --

In order to lose weight and become healthier, you will need to plan a diet that you can stick to. Your diet plan is not a crash diet that you will give up after two weeks; it should be a LIFESTYLE change. Your diet changes must be reasonable or you will not be able to stick to them. That's why making a few subtle changes to your eating and exercise habits may help you develop a healthy diet plan that will, in turn, help you lose weight. Sometimes, the littlest things make the biggest difference.

Look at your diet patterns and decide if there are some nasty patterns that you can break. For instance, are there certain times of day when you just have to have a candy bar? Or are there certain times of day when you can't go without that bag of chips? Think about what you can reasonably give up or even better what can you replace with healthier food choices.

Here are some little habits that you might consider changing. The key is, you are breaking a BAD habit and instilling a GOOD habit in its place. This should be a PERMANENT change. Ask yourself, "Can I maintain this change for the rest of my life?"

Fast Food. Do you eat out everyday for lunch? Start to bring your lunch to work at least 4 days a week Even stopping by McDonald's twice a week can have a big impact on your diet. When you cook at home, you know what's going into your food.

Drinks. When you're thirsty, choose drinks that don't have any calories (water, tea, or diet soft drinks). If your drink choices do have have calories, they should have nutrients. Alcohol and soda both contain useless calories.

Snacks. Do you have a certain time of day that you just HAVE to snack? Fill your cupboard and refrigerator with low calorie snacks. Get rid of those high carbohydrate and sugary snacks.

Dinner. Maybe your hardest time of day is when you sit down to have a big meal. While you're cooking, eat a healthy snack - like a piece of fruit or a few low calorie crackers. Cook only what you will eat (no leftovers). If you make more than you're supposed to eat, serve from the stove, and put leftovers away before you sit down to eat. In other words, do not have extra food sitting in front of you on the table. Do you know that a meat serving should be only as big as a deck of cards?

Exercise. Exercise MUST be a part of your daily routines: When you're shopping, park your car far away from the store. Plan for this and do it EVERY time - especially in the cold weather! (The colder it is, the more calories you will burn.) Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Play a game of hide-and-seek with your kids. When you take the dog for a walk, make it a brisk walk. Can you find some way to sneak in some exercise everyday? Look carefully at your routines and plan something that you don't mind doing. If you like it, chances are you will continue to do it.
